The Hornets of life....

Yesterday I had an invasion of hornets in my cottage.  When the first one appeared I wasn't that concerned.  I've had the odd hornet find it's way inside over the years, and usually i just swoosh it out the door and have forgotten about it in minutes.  Yesterday was different though.  By 12 noon I had dealt with 5 hornets on the inside!  THis was anything but normal.  As the day went on the number of hornets spending time having tea with me increased, much to my horror.  Every hour there was a new very large beast of a bug to deal with.  I took each one on with the same determination.  extinction and elmination where the name of the game.  I managed to get seven from the front of the cottage through to the back, and right out the back door.  Three where caught in windows and left to suffer, and two i killed myself!  These beasts didn't want to die easily putting up quite the battle.  It seemed easier to swoosh them out the back door than to kill them.  However, i wondered if the same hornets that got sent out the back door where flying around and once again invading my peace by coming right back in through the front.  I lost count of how many hornets I encountered yesterday.  all this battling got me thinking though.

What are the hornets in our lives?  Those nasty invaders of our peace of mind.  It could be anything, fear, anger, frustration, anxiety, unforgiveness, rejection, jealousy, entitlement and the list goes on.  These enemies can appear at any moment and upset the quiet space in our minds.  Swooshing these thoughts out of the corners of our minds seems the easiest way.  However, it's isn't the best long term solution for dealing with the distraction.  Yesterday I found the best way to iliminate the problem was to squish and kill the hornets.  I also found it wasn't the easiest way.  It took effort, determination, courage, and time on my part.  This morning I was thinking about those invaders that I have had to deal with over the years.  Any success I have had in removing and eliminating them always involved my full attention and with God's help the results yeilded peace, healing and eventually satisfaction in my efforts.  God calls us to take up our sword and stand firm against the hornets of life.  I feel pretty good that with the help of my friends and family I won the battle against the beasts of distraction yesterday.  Conquering is a great feeling.

This article reflects my recent travel experience.  You never know where you will end up or when you will leave once you submit to the evil beast known as the "airline."  It is an utterly frustrating experience that turns you into a very cynical and hopeless individual who's only recourse is to commiserate with the other lost souls you find yourself stranded with.

Under increased pressure to announce an exit strategy from Iraq, President George W. Bush revealed plans to bring U.S. troops home on the budget airlines JetBlue.

Bush received praise for his decision to withdraw American troops, but his choice of JetBlue to transport them raised more than a few eyebrows.

According to most official estimates, with its recent spate of scheduling problems and flight delays, JetBlue could take up to seven years to bring U.S. troops home, and possibly 10 years in the event of inclement weather.

But at a press conference at the White House, the president argued that the selection of Jet Blue was "crucial" to the success of his latest exit strategy.

"Setting an exact timetable for a withdrawal from Iraq would be playing right into the enemy's hands," Bush said. "By going with JetBlue, our enemy will have no idea when we're leaving."

To emphasize his point, Bush added, "And neither will we."

Across Iraq, U.S. GIs were hopeful that the news about JetBlue meant that they would be home by Christmas, or at least by Easter 2012.

At JetBlue headquarters in Forest Hills, N.Y., CEO David Neeleman said that it was "flattering" to be chosen to play such a critical role in President Bush's new exit strategy, but wondered if his embattled airlines has what it takes to bring troops home from Iraq.

"We're still having a hard time getting people home to Fort Myers," Neeleman said.

Elsewhere, Britain and Denmark announced that they were joining "The Coalition of the Leaving."
